Materials to bring
Paints
Winsor and Newton, Old Holland, Gamblin or comparable brings (mixing and matching brands is fine);
Titanium White, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Orange, Alizarin Crimson, Raw Umber, Ivory Black. Those are the essentials. Cerulean Blue is Scott's preference but other Blues, Greens are useful and encouraged. They will be mixed with other pigments, so bring what you have. Other nice options for skin tones include Pale Rose Blush (Winsor and Newton) and Naples Yellow, but they are not mandatory.
Brushes
A range of synthetic round brushes ranging from size 2 - 8. Brushes needn’t be expensive but should be springy and retain a good point. Also, larger filberts and bristle for massing in backgrounds. If you plan on painting more elements than just the portrait or figure, these larger brushes are encouraged.
Solvents and Mediums
We insist on Gamsol as a solvent in the studio. Make sure your Gamsol can be closed/covered when not in use.
A small bottle of Refined Linseed oil.
Canvas
One fine weave, oil primed linen canvas or board, between 14x18 and16 x 20inches (40 x 50cm)
Palette
A finished wooden palette or glass palette is ideal.
Additional materials
Bring an Ipad or large enough digital screen to see your reference image. Images will be taken from a live model on the first day of the workshop.
Paper towels, mahl stick, glass jar with a lid (for holding solvent)
If you would like to order materials online and have them sent here, you can find all materials at Jackson's Art
